How to back up RHEL 3.4 ES before Installing RHEL 6

Posted on

I've inheited a system that is running RHEL 3.4 ES.

I am having trouble updating tools and software, and would like to wipe it

and install RHEL 6.

Among other things, I cannot find rpms that will propoerly install and run

to keep it updated.

However, my first challenge is to make a backup of user and critical system directories.

RHEL 3.4 ES does not support cifs mounts as far as I can tell, so I am having no luck

mounting a shared network drive that is able to store the 70-90GB+ of data I have.

Any advice on what I can do to make the backup work?
