Run plugin in dev container - Codeready Workspaces

I'm importing a custom plugin (VS Code extension) into Codeready Workspaces. As per the docs, it's added by default into the Che-Theia IDE container. How can I add this plugin to the developer container (where the project sources reside) instead ?
