What protocol does JBoss use to communicate between domain and host controllers?

Haven't been able to find an answer in the forums or elsewhere.

A bit of context - we are considering the security risks of having a domain controller on one server controlling two hosts on two other servers, and this was a question that came up that I did not have an answer to.
