Using the search bar and filter

I am going attempting to search the packages that I have on my Satellite server (6.5) and I can't figure out the search function and filters. Is there a doc that can give some examples? Or maybe if someone has some, that would help too. I have thousands to look through but can't seem to get this search bar right.
