How to open Red Hat VM Appliance (ova)?

Latest response

Hi everyone,

I have downloaded a Red Hat VM Appliance from the Red Hat website and made sure that SHA-256 checksum is correct.
(file name is rhvm-appliance-4.2-20180504.0.x86_64.rhevm.ova)
But, I cannot open it with any software available for me (VMWare Workstation, VMWare OVF Tool, VirtualBox, Virt-V2V etc., all the latest versions).
Could you please tell me what I am doing wrong and what should I do in order to open and use this Appliance?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

There's no need to open it. This is usually installed automatically during self hosted engine deployment. However, you can specify the .ova file (the downloaded one, or one you have created yourself):

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.2/html/self-hosted_engine_guide/deploying_the_self-hosted_engine_using_the_cli_deploy (step 6)

If you really want to open it, you can use tar:

<br /># tar -zxvf rhvm-appliance-20180125.0-1.x86_64.rhevm.ova
