Implementing Active Directory with various RHEL VMs that have different UIDs/GIDs for users

Latest response

I have a number of various RHEL VMs (5, 6 and 7). All of them have the same users accounts and service accounts with different UIDs and GIDs.

I'm starting to map out hooking these VMs into Windows Active Directory.

Will I come into issue with the various user accounts and service accounts that have different UIDs and GIDs and is there a way to correct this?

Hi Christopher,

One word of caution: are those accounts used for running applications or just managing the environment (admin users)? If former, than be very careful because AD slowness or unavailability could cause problems for applications! I have seen that problem in various organisations.

Since AD would manage those accounts in the future, the UIDs/PIDs of files owned on different systems would change. Therefore, you will simply have to use find(1m) command and change ownership of files to match the UID/GID as per specific account in AD.
