Unable to get PHP5.6 working with JBCS_httpd Apache web server

Working on a project that is using the jbcs_httpd24_httpd flavor of the Apache 2.4 web service. This has been set up properly, but one of the applications requires PHP 5.6 (or higher). However, the default options of installing php56 via yum install it along with the standard Apache httpd24. Does anyone have any suggestions toward the installation of php?
