How to import a storage domain ?

Latest response

I have two standalone RHV-M and I want to import the storage domain on one server to the another in order to simulate a site recovery in case of disaster. I don't have a shared storage, I installed all the vm on nfs share that is located on local disk

In order to import a storage domain, the hypervisor(s) of the importing RHVM require access to the storage domain. In a disaster recovery setup you will need other storage than local disks.

To find out how this part of the recovery procedure works with your current setup on local storage, you could setup an NFS server on the primary RHVM and export the storage domain to the importing RHVM.

Before you start the import, you will have to stop all vm's on the primary RHVM, put the storage domain in maintenance and detach it. Then you need to attach it to the importing RHVM and you should be able to run the vm's, provided your network setup on the importing RHVM is equivalent to the setup of the primary RHVM.

Hello Salim,

As Siem has mentioned in order to perform that kind of recovery you must use Shared Storage. Without the use of Shared Storage if that system goes down there is no point of reference for a separate host to pull the information necessary to continue to run the host. If you have issues/concerns with any of the information referenced above please feel free to open a new case and we can further investigate with you.
