CL220 lab is broken
Hi everyone,
A node called ose-node.lab.example.com from the lab of CL220 course can't start - the boot process is stuck at "Booting from Hard Disk..." stage, which makes it impossible to complete a lab with creating an OpenShift container provider. There may be more affected labs, but I'm only at the chapter 4 yet. Resetting the node didn't help. Is there anything else that can be done? Thank you in advance.

Hi David,
First of all, sorry you've not had a reply to this since it seems October when you started this discussion.
Sorry you're having trouble with your lab. You might not be aware of this, your Red Hat Learning Subscription is a supported product. I recommend you submit a case with Red Hat. Community support may not be the best avenue to get your issue resolved. The reason why, (last paragraph in this post), is that Red Hat has found the solution for one person may not transfer over to another due to a variety of unique factors (see last paragraph in this post)
- Go to this link: https://access.redhat.com/support/cases/, which is at the top of this page too, named
SUPPORT CASES. - In the
Productdrop down, select:Red Hat Online Learning(NOTE: You will need to scroll down through a list in the drop-down menu) - Important, in the
Product Versiondrop down, select the largest number (as I type this, it is1.0, but that may change over time) NOTE: the "Submit" button won't activate until this is selected. - In the
Case Typedrop down, select:Other - In the
Problem Statementblock, enter something concise, the course number, and a small description. - In the
Case Descriptionblock, enter the specifics.
The other blocks are straightforward enough. When I've submitted a ticket for Red Hat Online Learning, I make it a low priority, it certainly is not production. One of the course administrators does on occasion check the forum, but you ought to submit a ticket for this issue since this is supported.
The Training Principal Product Manager also highly recommends submitting a case for this, as the experiences of one customer in resolution may not necessarily work with another (paraphrasing) see this link, it leads to his comments
I've brought this to the attention of the curriculum team, and they're deciding what to do about it.
I don't think it makes the labs impossible though, as I was able to complete the OpenShift related labs without issue even with the node not bootable. As our QA procedures test the lab instructions in the manual, this is likely why no one noticed.
It is important to note that after completing the OpenShift provider labs, you are instructed to remove the configuration before moving on, as having the Container Provider defined while trying to add other providers was known to cause issues in this version of CloudForms.

P.S. R Hinton: Excellent advice, I could not have said it better myself.
I got an update today, whilst surfing the halls at HQ in Raleigh. The OpenShift stuff may not be working correctly, but it's not the non-booting machine that is at issue. Apparently one of the SSL certs in the environment may have expired.
I'd open a support case, as suggested by R. Hinton, so that they can let you know when the issue is resolved.
