  • Chromium browser on RHEL6 will not read shared NSS DB

    Posted on

We're trying to get chromium-browser, which is included with the "rhel-6-server-supplementary-rpms" repository, to read the system's shared NSS DB in /etc/pki/nssdb/.

We've added a few custom CA certificates into that database but chromium will not read that, from what we've seen so far.

If we add the certs into our own personal database ( ~/.pki/nssdb/ ) then Chromium sees them.

I see there's lot of talk about NSS issues with different browsers online, but have not yet found the magic link that fixes this problem.

Does anyone have any experience with Chromium (chrome) reading shared NSS DB?

It seems that we shouldn't have to add CA's into every user's personal NSS database. Maybe we're missing a key piece of instructions somewhere.

    System Info:

RHEL 6.6 (latest updates as of this posting)
    chromium-browser 41.0.2272.76
    nss-tools 3.16.2.3

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris
