How do I get network working on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 on the AcerPower G31?

Updated -

Release Found: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0

Problem

The AcerPower G31 workstation requires a network driver, r8168, that is not provided by Red Hat in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 to support the Realtek RTL8111/8168B NIC.

Solution

Acer will provide the support for this driver. Visit the following URL to download it: http://www.acer.co.in/drivers/redhat%20Drivers.zip

Update: As of May 2009, Acer India Pvt. Ltd. has worked with Red Hat to re-certify the AcerPower G31 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3. The Realtek RTL8111/8168B NIC now works without requiring the download and configuration of the driver from Acer on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3.

Hence the stated problem in this article only affects users of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 on AcerPower G31, who are un-able to upgrade to 5.3 or later. Any issues with Acer provided drivers should be logged with Acer India directly as Red Hat will only support the drivers shipped within Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 and later.

I can run the module on the card,
installing the driver directly from the manufacturer's site
