What are the steps for changing kernel parameters like SHMMAX, SEMNI, and SEMMNS for an Oracle 9.2 installation?

Oracle release 9.2 recommends that we set the following kernel parameters (values recommended on a per system basis, please contact Oracle for additional help with regards to what the parameters should be used for your system):

SHMMAX 2147483648, SEMNI 100, and SEMMNS 256.

You can easily adjust these values in the /etc/sysctl.conf
