Issue

  • How can I use Emulex OneConnect Univeral Converged Network Adapter (UCNA) devices in RHEL 5.5?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5
  • Server equipped with one or more of the following Emulex OneConnect UCNA devices
    • Emulex OneConnect 10Gb FCoE Initiator (PCI ID 19a2:0704)

Resolution

  • This Emulex device is supported in RHEL5.5 through a driver update disk.
  • To locate the disk you need, follow this link to the Product Enhancement Advisory that announces the availability of the driver update disk:
    http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHEA-2010-0927.html
  • On that page locate the variant and architecture of RHEL that you are using, for example, RHEL 5 Server, x86_64.
  • Copy the name of the RPM package listed there.
  • Log in to the Red Hat Network (RHN) at http://rhn.redhat.com
  • At the top of the RHN page, change the search box to "Package" and paste the name of the RPM package you copied earlier into the box.

  • Follow the links that are displayed to download the file.

  • Directions for using driver update disks can be found in chapter seven of the RHEL 5 Installation Guide, which can be found at our documentation site:
    http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/index.html
  • Should you need the ISO version of the package, follow these directions:

    • Log in to RHN at http://rhn.redhat.com

    • Click the "Download Software" image at the left of the browser window

    • Choose the "Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 for 32-bit x86)" link for 32-bit packages and/or the "Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 for 64-bit x86_64)" link for 64-bit packages.

    • Scroll down and click "View ISO Images for Older Releases"
    • Click "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 Server (x86)" if you followed the 32-bit link earlier or "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 Server (AMD64/Intel EM64T)" if you followed the 64-bit link
    • Click on the ISO file you need to download it
