How do I correct a buffer error that I get when connecting to iLO on HP Proliant servers with ssh?

When connecting to iLO on HP Proliant servers with OpenSSH the following error may appear after authentication:

dispatch_protocol_error: type 100 seq 7
buffer_get_ret: trying to get more bytes 4 than in buffer 0
buffer_get_int: buffer error

To work around this issue, type the following command before using ssh to login:

# unset LANG
