Migrating from openswan to libreswan in RHEL 6
The openswan package that is currently shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 will be deprecated and replaced by libreswan for the next update of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Openswan and libreswan both provide IPsec VPN services for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
libreswan will be introduced as a direct replacement for openswan. It is a more stable and secure VPN solution and is already available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
To help you prepare for this transition, libreswan is available now in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Extras channel. For information about the Extras channel, please refer to: Red Hat Linux Extras Product Life Cycle.
The Libreswan project provides additional documentation on performing this migration: HOWTO: openswan to libreswan migration
