Release Found: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
If you have the amount of video RAM in BIOS set to reserve only 1MB, then running graphical tools
at all will become a problem. Base resolution for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is 800x600x32, which requires just short of 2MB video memory. In order to boot or install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 on the Fujitsu Siemens ESPRIMO E5720, set the reserved amount of video RAM to 8MB in BIOS.
In addition, the kernel parameter pci=nommconf must be added to the kernel boot options. This can be done at install time. If booting from CD/DVD, simply enter linux pci=nommconf at the boot prompt.
Once the system is installed view /boot/grub/grub.conf and verify that the kernel stanzas look something like this:
title Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (2.6.18-92.el5) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5 ro rhgb quiet root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 pci=nommconf initrd /initrd-2.6.18-92.el5.img
If the system is installed via kickstart (for example, though RHN Satellite), then /boot/grub/grub.conf can be modified by adding a %post script to the kickstart file similar to the following:
sed -i.mmconf '/vmlinuz-2\.6\./s/$/pci=nommconf/' /boot/grub/grub.conf
