What driver is needed for the Nvidia graphics adapter in the HP Z840 Workstation?

Updated -

Issue:

The HP Z840 Workstation offers a variety of new Nvidia graphics adapters which are not supported by the Nouveau driver in RHEL7.0. During certification of the HP Z840 Workstation, the Generic VESA driver was used for these adapters.

Environment

RHEL7.0
NVIDIA NVS 510 2GB Graphics
NVIDIA Quadro K4200 4GB Graphics
NVIDIA NVS 315 1GB Graphics
NVIDIA Quadro K620 2GB Graphics
NVIDIA Quadro K2200 4GB Graphics
NVIDIA Quadro K6000 12GB Graphics
NVIDIA Quadro K5200 8GB Graphics
NVIDIA Quadro K420 1GB Graphics
NVIDIA NVS 310 512MB Graphics
All other Nvidia Graphics adapters offered with HP Z840 at time of the certification

Work Around

In order to enable native driver support in RHEL7, the Nouveau driver must first be black-listed and then the generic, VESA driver will load automatically.

To blacklist the Nouveau driver, append the following line to the kernel boot parameters in grub:

"rdblacklist=nouveau nouveau.modeset=0"

Resolution

Nouveau support for these adapters will be added in a future release of RHEL7
