Background and Terms

First let's briefly discuss the structure of an RPM filename and define some terms that will be used later.
An RPM filename will look something like this:

vim-enhanced-7.2.411-1.8.el6.x86_64.rpm

This can be deconstructed into a series of values:

<name>-<version>-<release>.<arch>.rpm
