How do I change a Red Hat Satellite from connected to disconnected, or vice-versa?

Red Hat Network Satellite looks for the presence of a value for server.satellite.rhn_parent in its main configuration file, /etc/rhn/rhn.conf. By default, the value should be:
server.satellite.rhn_parent = satellite.rhn.redhat.com
If the value is changed to a null value, like so:
server.satellite.rhn_parent =
