Why does MetaMatrix not push down the criteria I specify on a date column?

Symptom
A submitted query contains an equality criteria for a date in the WHERE clause and the returned results are not as expected.
User Query:
SELECT * FROM Virtual.VirtualTableA WHERE virtualDateColumn = {d'2005-03-29'}
Resulting Source-Specific Query:
