Updated -

Issue:

  • Is only the QDR (Quad Data Rate) throughput mode supported in Red hat Enterprise Linux or Red Hat OpenStack 3.0?
  • Which Red hat Enterprise Linux or Red Hat OpenStack 3.0 release supports the FDR (Fourteen Data Rate) throughput mode?

Environment:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat OpenStack 3.0
  • All Infiniband HBAs

Resolution:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 6 update 3 and Red Hat Open Stack 3.0 does fully support FDR (Fourteen Data Rate) devices from Mellanox.
  • Support for FDR devices from Intel has been implemented in RHEL6, update 4.
  • At the time of this certification, HP certified with RHEL 6.1, where FDR was not supported. And HP didn't recertify this device with RHEL 6.3 or later.
  • At the time of this certification, Dell certified with RHEL minor release earlier than 6.3, where FDR was not supported. And HP didn't recertify this device with RHEL 6.3 or later.
  • For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, Mellanox FDR devices are supported since update 9.
  • Support for Intel FDR devices is not likely to arrive in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
  • Support for FDR will be present in all later major versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
