Migrate your VMs to OpenShift Virtualization with the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization

Updated -

You can migrate virtual machines from Red Hat Virtualization to OpenShift Virtualization with the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization.

Migration Toolkit for Virtualization

The Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV) migrates virtual machines from Red Hat Virtualization to OpenShift Virtualization at scale.

Migrations are performed by providing the source and destination environment credentials, mapping the source and destination networks and storage, creating a migration plan and, finally, running the migration.

You can migrate virtual machines in the MTV web console or from the command line.

OpenShift Virtualization

OpenShift Virtualization is an add-on to OpenShift Container Platform that allows you to run and manage virtual machine workloads alongside container workloads.

OpenShift Virtualization provides a web console and command line tools to perform the following tasks:

  • Create and manage Linux and Windows virtual machines alongside OpenShift Container Platform cluster containers and infrastructure
  • Connect to virtual machines through a variety of consoles and from the command line
  • Import and clone existing virtual machines
  • Manage network interface controllers and storage disks attached to virtual machines
  • Live-migrate virtual machines between nodes

OpenShift Virtualization is tested with OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF, formerly OpenShift Container Storage) and designed to use with ODF features for the best experience.
