Unable to start RHDS Admin server after applying the latest nss security errata

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • After recently updating several of our packages on all our servers, including various nss rpm's, we have seen the following errors return in the RHDS admin server error log:

    [Tue Feb 18 11:34:40 2014] [error] NSS_Initialize failed. Certificate database: /etc/dirsrv/admin-serv.
    [Tue Feb 18 11:34:40 2014] [error] SSL Library Error: -8038 SEC_ERROR_NOT_INITIALIZED
[Tue Feb 18 11:34:41 2014] [notice] child pid 4652 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

  • We have had these errors before and are aware of the available Red Hat solution Red Hat Directory Server: Admin Server doesn't start - NSS errors

  • However, the erratum in question has been long installed, we are running a quite recent version of openldap and also of 389-ds-base

  • Also I feel that the permissions to the cert db in /etc/dirsrv/admin-serv are fine and the RHDS user 'rhds' should be able to read the certificate

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.5
  • Red Hat Directory Server (RHDS) 9.1
  • Network Security Services (nss) 3.15.3-3.el6_5
  • Network Security Services Softoken Cryptographic Module (nss-softokn) 3.14.3-9.el6
