Environment

• Red Hat OpenStack Platform (RHOSP) 16
• Red Hat Service Telemetry Framework (STF) 1.5

Issue

Why are some Ceilometer metrics generated only few minutes per hour?
Why are this metrics not periodic as other Ceilometer metrics?

Resolution

Some Ceilometer metrics use notifications as data collection mechanism.

It are event-driven metrics and you can't determine the periodicity in STF.

Root Cause

The origin definition of each metric in the measurements doc.

Any Notification metric is used in the dashboard examples in the STF installation.

Diagnostic Steps

• Query timeseries data in Grafana or Prometheus and observe gaps between data points.

• Use Notification metrics as ceilometer_vcpus and ceilometer_memory.
