Is there a way to switch the terminal during installation, when using the serial console installation option?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Issue

When install RHEL6 using a serial console, we pass the parameter "console=ttyS0" to kernel during boot up. But we are not able to view anaconda log/terminal for debugging (using Alt+ F1/F2/F3).

Is there a way to get a prompt to debug when using the serial console installation?

Resolution

It is not possible to switch the terminals when installing using a serial console. To get a prompt just hit CTRL+Z at the stage where one is needed for investigation. This will interrupt the installer and move it to the background. When finished just type exit to return to the install program.
