Why do I see multipath errors calling out path prioritizers when /tmp is mounted with nodev option on RHEL5 ?

Issue

  • When running multipath -ll, these error messages are shown, but read/write to the multipath device is OK:
    # multipath -ll
    /sbin/mpath_prio_hds_modular exitted with 1
    error calling out /sbin/mpath_prio_hds_modular 8:48
    /sbin/mpath_prio_hds_modular exitted with 1
    error calling out /sbin/mpath_prio_hds_modular 8:112
    /sbin/mpath_prio_hds_modular exitted with 1
    error calling out /sbin/mpath_prio_hds_modular 8:80
    /sbin/mpath_prio_hds_modular exitted with 1
    error calling out /sbin/mpath_prio_hds_modular 8:144
