Unable to migrate RHEL5 vm using virt-v2v from Vmware to RHEV 3.5

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • We're in the process of testing the v2v feature using a RHEL-6.6 proxy to import a RHEL5.11 vm from Vmware 5.5u2 to RHEV 3.5.
  • During the conversion phase, the guestfsd crashes with this output:
[   68.731964] guestfsd[405]: segfault at 0 ip 0000003298881171 sp 00007fff54044de8 error 4 in libc-2.12.so[3298800000+18a000]
/init: line 158:   405 Segmentation fault      $vg guestfsd
  • This is the complete command-line we used to produce the debug output:
LIBGUESTFS_TRACE=1 LIBGUESTFS_DEBUG=1 virt-v2v -ic 'esx://esxi-server_fqdn/?no_verify=1' -o rhev -os netapp:/vol/vol --network rhevm V2V-RHEL5 2>&1 | tee virt-v2v-1.log
  • We had no problems at all during the conversion of a RHEL6 and a Windows2008 vm.
  • In addittion, we tested the v2v procedure from a rhel7 proxy using the rpm packages in tech-preview as described at this link. In this case, the migration process of the RHEL5.11 vm completed successfully.
  • RHEV imported VM (from Vmware) is placed in an unexisting network named eth0 instead of the specified rhevm.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.5
  • virt-v2v-0.9.1-5.el6_5.x86_64
