NFS cluster: does it really need Fencing, when using Virtual Machines in a Cloud Service?

Posted on

Hi,
I need to implemented a NFS cluster, on RHEL 7, in a cloud environment (OpenStack)...
This is the doc:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/high_availability_add-on_administration/ch-nfsserver-haaa

Now, about fencing... it seems to me Fencing is all about real bare-metal servers, not about VMs... In my case, all RHEL servers are virtual, inside this OpenStack cloud.

So, do I really need fencing? Of course, there's no power switch whatsoever, that I know of at least...

Thanks a lot,
