Running yum and rhn_check commands on a client connected to RHN Proxy is encountering "[('SSL routines', 'SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE', 'certificate verify failed')]"

Issue

Getting the following error when running yum and rhn_check commands:

[client]# /usr/sbin/rhn_check -vvv
...
ERROR: SSL errors detected
[('SSL routines', 'SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE', 'certificate verify failed')]
...

If we use http instead of https then yum and rhn_check works fine

Environment

Red Hat Satellite Proxy 5.6 connected to RHN (instead of another Satellite)
