How does IPv6 High Availability clustering work without gratuitous ARP ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • In IPv4 HA clustering, when a host takes over the floating IP address, it sends out a gratuitous ARP so that the floating IP address will now be associated with this NIC's MAC address.

But gratuitous ARP is not possible with IPv6.

So how does address takeover take place in IPv6 High Availability ?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
