Can I use the dlm.service systemd service provided by the dlm package to start dlm-related services during boot?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 with the Resilient Storage Add On

Issue

  • Is the systemd dlm.service supported?
  • Can I start up dlm_controld and load the dlm module during boot outside of a cluster resource by using dlm.service?

Resolution

Red Hat does not support usage of the dlm.service systemd service, and recommends against enabling it. DLM should be activated and managed using the ocf:pacemaker:controld resource agent via pacemaker.

To do so, a controld resource can be created with pcs and added to a resource group, or be created independently and have other resources that require DLM be dependent upon it via constraints.
