Registration of RHEV-H to RHEVM fails if icmp-echo request from rhev-h -> rhevm is blocked

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Registration of RHEV-H to RHEVM fails if icmp echo-request from rhev-h to rhevm is blocked.

  • RHEV-H is on a different network than the RHEV-H and icmp echo-request from RHEV-H to RHEV-M is blocked by firewall sitting in between. In this context, registering RHEV-H to RHEVM fails if we do it from the configuration menu.

  • All other TCP communications are allowed two-way between these two hosts (hypervisor<->manager) as per instructions in http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.0/html/Installation_Guide/sect-Installation_Guide-Installing_the_Infrastructure-Firewall.html and in http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.0/html/Administration_Guide/Administration_Guide-Managing_Hosts.html

See "5. Open firewall ports". at "4.1.2.1.3.1. Preparing Red Hat Enterprise Linux Hosts" in the second link given above.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization v3.0
