rpm not working, library errors?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • I am having rpm issues again on a newly built system. I am puzzled and wonder if it is indicitive of further issues. Here is an example of what we're facing:
[root@mybox rpm]# rpm
rpm: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/librpmio.so.1: undefined symbol: luaL_newstate

And I am not able to provide an SOSREPORT:

[root@lxrsbinoft015 rpm]# sosreport
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/sbin/sosreport", line 18, in <module>
    from sos.sosreport import sosreport, doExitCode
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sos/sosreport.py", line 40, in <module>
    import sos.policyredhat
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sos/policyredhat.py", line 28, in <module>
    import rpm
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rpm/__init__.py", line 9, in <module>
    from rpm._rpm import *
ImportError: /usr/lib64/librpmio.so.1: undefined symbol: luaL_typerror
