Environment
- Red Hat Network (RHN) Classic
- Red Hat Satellite Server
Issue
- How can I activate/deactivate a Satellite certificate for a Red Hat Satellite server with Red Hat Network (RHN) Classic?
- How to stop using current active satellite certificate with active Satellite FQDN, and instead use it with another Satellite host, which uses another FQDN.
- Found a button "Deactivate Satellite License" on RHN ->
-> Details -> Satellite. - What does the button "Deactivate Satellite License do"?
Does it:- Totally deactivate this license, making it useless for any Satellite installation?
- Deactivate the license for current RHN registered host, allowing to use current active certificate on another host, but never for active Satellite host?
- Deactivate this license for now, afterwards allowing to use it at any time for any host?
Resolution
-
To de-activate a Satellite certificate, refer to the steps below:
-
Log into RHN Classic with the organization's Satellite-entitled account.
-
Click on Subscriptions -> Registered Systems under Classic Management section then click on Satellite
under Systems menu (left hand side of the page) -> click on the name of the Red Hat Satellite Server profile. -
In the System Details page, click the Satellite subtab and examine the existing certificate (NOTE: If
the Satellite subtab does not exist on the System Details page, verify that you have administrative
priveleges for the RHN account). Ensure that there is a backup of this file by copying and pasting its
contents into a text editor. -
Click Deactivate Satellite License at the bottom of the page. Then click Confirm Deactivation. A message
describing the deactivation will appear at the top of the page.
-
-
The "Deactivate Satellite License" button on RHN Classic is for deactivating the satellite certificate from that particular system profile.
- Yes, the certificate can be deactivated from current working Satellite system profile and activate it on any other Satellite system until the expiry date mentioned in the Satellite certificate.
