Do printers on remote CUPS servers require a PPD file on the local client?
Issue
- If the client machines don't have a printer-specific PPD (Postscript Printer Definition) file they can't activate the bits they want (hole punching, stapling, booklets, output mailbox selection, etc etc etc). Unfortunately, once you go beyond a simple desktop printer, treating them as a generic device is unsatisfactory.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
- Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) 1.4.2
