Why do AMD Opteron 6300 "Piledriver" processors show the incorrect number of CPU cores?
Issue
- The BIOS information displays 4 processors with 16 cores each (i.e total of 64 physical cores).
- However
/proc/cpuinfodisplays 8 cores with 16 siblings which apparently leads to the belief that there only 8 cores with hyperthreading available.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- AMD Opteron(tm) "Piledriver" series 6300 processor
