A cluster node fails to be fenced with "fence_vmware_soap" and gets a timeout error message

Issue

  • A virtual machine fails to be fenced correctly and the following message is printed:
Feb 23 12:57:53 node1 fenced[2896]: fencing node "node2"
Feb 23 12:58:25 node1 fenced[2896]: agent "fence_vmware" reports: Failed: Timed out waiting to power OFF

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Advanced Platform (Clustering)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability Add on)
  • VMware VSphere 4.1 managing virutal machines
