Is it possible to install old library package?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • An application support vendor that I deal with has asked whether I can install the version of the libstdc++.x86_64 package that supplies the library /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.5.
  • I think this library may pre-date RHEL5
  • I can see /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.7 installed however the application will not run (as you would expect).
  • Is it possible to install the old package and if so, what is the support position?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4
  • libstdc++
  • compat-libstdc++
