Dell Server with DUAL NIC Cannot Detect Ethernet Ports

Environment

  • RHEL 7.9
  • Dell Server
  • Servers with DUAL NIC Intel Card

Issue

  • Dell Intel Power Edge series dual port servers with default NIC can not detect ethernet ports.
  • At the OS Level, running shows card in NIC slot, however NIC is not detected in ifcfg files.
  • ip a and ifconfig commands only show default NIC
  • NIC is seen by IDRAC as up and available
  • Required NIC driver firmware is up to date

Resolution

To resolve, you will need to contact DELL to provide you with the correct drivers for your specific server build.

Root Cause

This is a stealthy issue, in which everything looks to be in order, but can occur when improper drivers are given or installed by the manufacturer.
