After RHEL 8.9 or 9.3 update, rsyslog unable to write log files under /home

Issue

The system was updated to RHEL 8.9 with rsyslog version rsyslog-8.2102.0-15.el8.

rsyslog in the environment is custom configured to write log files under /home. After the update, rsyslog is unable to write the files, reporting errors similar to:

Nov 16 09:43:24 syslog01 rsyslogd[1514]: file '/home/syslog/host/messages': open error: Read-only file system [v8.2102.0-15.el8 try https://www.rsyslog.com/e/2433 ]
Nov 25 18:37:19 myrhel9 rsyslogd[2797588]: cannot create '/home/myuser/dev/log': Read-only file system [v8.2310.0-4.el9 try https://www.rsyslog.com/e/2176 ]

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 with rsyslog-8.2102.0-15.el8 or higher
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 with rsyslog-8.2102.0-117.el9 or higher
