Why are there write failures on GlusterFS 2.0.4 due to low disk space?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We started getting errors on our legacy Gluster 2.0 volume this morning. File creation in certain folders started failing, but seems to sometimes be resolved by restarting the client. The RAID controllers don't appear to show disk errors, the mounts are available. The following log line looks worrying:
[2014-01-16 13:23:33] D [dht-selfheal.c:435:dht_selfheal_directory] cluster: 1 subvolumes down -- not fixing

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4
  • GlusterFS - 2.0.4

Note: GlusterFS 2.0.4, not to be confused with Red Hat Storage 2.0
