How can I reliably determine the RHEL release via the satellite API in satellite 5.2

Is there a reliable method to obtain the version and point release of a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server registered with satellite, via the satellite API?

Information about the "release" does appear to be available in the dictionary object returned by system.getDetails in the 5.4 API, but the same information does not appear to be available within 5.2
