Samba continually logs "Unable to connect to CUPS server" in RHEL

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Samba is continually logging unable to connect to CUPS server in the logs.
  • Samba complains constantly about CUPS not able to contact localhost.
  • Constantly getting errors like the following in the /var/log/messages file:

    smbd[27135]: [2010/07/04 04:02:24, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_connect(69)
smbd[27135]: Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost:631 - Connection refused

  • I am seeing a lot of these messages in /var/log/messages from samba:

    smbd[30052]: [2014/05/07 13:09:46, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_connect(69)
smbd[30052]: Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost:631 - Connection refused

We are receiving so many of them that it fills up /var/log file system over time. We would like to know how to suppress these messages.

Environment
