[RHEL6] compress command creates a broken file

Issue

  • A compressed file by the compress command is broken.
    root@kvmrhel6-01<~/work># ls -l etc.tar
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 21452800 Dec 28 21:00 etc.tar
root@kvmrhel6-01<~/work># compress etc.tar
root@kvmrhel6-01<~/work># ls -l etc.tar.Z
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 11404207 Dec 28 21:00 etc.tar.Z
root@kvmrhel6-01<~/work># uncompress etc.tar.Z
insize:1037 posbits:1120 inbuf:00 34 86 DA 00 (0)
uncompress: corrupt input

Environment
