The uuidd service writes wrong PID (process ID) in the pid-file in Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Issue

  • Checking the status of uuidd through the service command does not work properly because the PID value written by uuidd into the PID file (/var/lib/libuuid/uuidd.pid) is wrong.
  • The status of the uuidd daemon is not correct as shown by the service command. The stored PID is not the PID of the running uuidd daemon.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise 5 (RHEL 5)
  • e2fsprogs-1.39-23.el5_5.1
