JBoss EJB 2 CMP Entity bean generating select count (*) causes terrible performances in JBoss EAP?

Issue

Problem with the performances of queries generated by JPA of EJBs 1.x entity beans (CMP). The JPA layer generates some select count(*) that hava terrible performances in my system and this impact the performaces of very used functions that have 40sec of response time. Why are this select count executed? Can I disable them some how (I guess it is just a consistency check)? This application has been migrated from Weblogic where these queries were not executed.
