gnome login display is constantly blinking

Issue

  • Not able to login using graphical interface.

  • Getting a constantly blinking white box.

  • Getting a flashing login screen when when looking at the GUI and unable to login.

  • This occurred after updating the GTK2 package from GTK2-2.18.9-10.el6.x86_64 to GTK2-2.20.1-4.elx86_64

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3
