New kernel is installed, but not available during reboot

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • I have installed a new kernel, but at boot time, the server immediately boots into the previous version
  • /boot/grub/grub.conf appears correct
  • /var/log/messages confirms that the kernel is installed
  • /boot is not mounted
  • /boot is not present in /etc/fstab

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
