Unable to automatically load 3rd party nVidia video drivers after system update.

Issue

  • Why I am not able to boot system into GUI mode after kernel update.
  • Can not start X window after an update while using the nVidia driver. Getting following error in Xorg logs:
[ 14324.369] (EE) NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your
[ 14324.369] (EE) NVIDIA:     system's kernel log for additional error messages.
[ 14324.369] (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0)
[ 14324.369] (EE) No drivers available.
  • Unable to load 3rd party nVidia video drivers for the new kernel.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • nVidia proprietary video driver
