Removal of libstdc++ fails with error 'Trying to remove "yum", which is protected'

Issue

  • The yum erase libstdc++-4.4.6-3.el6.x86_64 fails with below error,
Error: Trying to remove "yum", which is protected
 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
 You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
  • The libstdc++-4.4.5-6.el6.x86_64 is required as Oracle dependency, while removing libstdc++-4.4.6-3.el6.x86_64 package to install required package it fails with error.
